Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team dropped an 80-55 decision to the Mohawk Mountaineers on Senior Night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
Prior to the game, Redeemer recognized their 2022-23 Senior Class of
Jessica Wattel (Kerwood, ON) and
Jessica Angelini (Hamilton, ON).
The Royals had three players in double digits led by Angelini who recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. First yearÂ
Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) contributed with the double-double collecting 15 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. First year
Serena Vitello (Hamilton, ON) added 11 points while first year
Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) finished with nine points and six rebounds in the loss. The Royals were without one of their top players tonight in
Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) .
Angelini finishes her 2022-23 regular season with a new single Royals single season mark in free throw percentage going 48-51 (94.1%), which ranks first in the OCAA. She also finishes her career first in career FT% with an 87.2% (144-165). With her 15 rebound performance, Stayshyn moved into third in Redeemer single season rebounds with 173.Â
Mohawk was led by Rachel Guanzon who recorded a game high 29 points, including 6-for-9 from beyond the arc.
For the game, the Royals shot 22.0% (13-59) from the field, 25.8% (8-31) from beyond the arc and 65.6% (21-32) from the free throw line. Mohawk went 30-78Â (38.5%)Â from the floor, 11-27Â (40.7%) from three point land and 9-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe.
The Royals now await their OCAA crossover playoff game which will be on the road Saturday, February 25th.
