ANCASTER, ON. Men's soccer travelled to London, ON to take on the Fanshawe Falcons. Redeemer entered Wednesday's match as the West Division five seed while the Falcons were ranked the fourth seed.
Redeemer men's soccer got to work early. The Royals established early pressure and capitalized on the opportunity. Redeemer first-year forward
Ethan Smith opened up the playoff scoring with a goal assisted by fellow first-year,
Carter Vanderkruk. The Royals thirty-eighth-minute goal had them in control at the half. The Falcons out-shot Redeemer 8-6 in the opening half but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.
Second-half action got underway and the Falcons cranked up the intensity. Fanshawe began to tally even more shots on goal looking to level the score. The Falcons found their way through the Royals and evened the score in the sixty-second minute. All tied at one with thirty minutes of play to decide this first-round match-up.
The remaining thirty minutes were tight, and neither side could get the upper hand and take the lead. The match entered the ninetieth minute and the Falcons buried a heartbreaker to go ahead 2-1. The Fanshawe Falcons last-minute goal ends the Royals season.
Redeemer men's soccer includes a successful and impressive OCAA season. The Royals have a bright future ahead of them and will come back hungry for more.
