ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer Men's volleyball hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers Saturday afternoon. The Royals won their first match of the season last time out and looked to add another. Mohawk entered Saturday with a 2-2 record.
Mohawk opened up the match with a set one victory 25-22. The Royals struggled with their attacking efficiency, which has been a trend for these Royals at the beginning of the season.
The Royals, knowing where they needed to adjust, dominated in sets two and three. Redeemer had two of their most efficient attacking sets on the season recording a .583 hitting efficiency in set two, and a .333 hitting efficiency in set three. The Royals have the pieces to be a dominant team and we are seeing the flashes of excellence already.Â
Set four got underway and Redeemer started strong. The Royals got off to a 13-8 lead and appeared to be in full control. The Mountaineers rallied back and shrunk the lead to two by 17-15. Following a strong offense and Royals unforced errors, Mohawk snatched set four from the Royals 25-20 to force a fifth and final set.Â
Fifth set action got underway and the Royals led at the side switch. Inching closer to fifteen points, the Royals led 10-7 forcing a Mohawk timeout. Redeemer carried their three-point advantage through to the final whistle. The Royals improve to 2-2 on the year and now carry a win streak.
Jonah Heidbuurt had a monstrous match recording 15 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces totaling 19 points. Heidbuurt hit .343% on the match. The Royals middles continue to be a dominant force for their opponents. The middle duo of Joosse and Demik recorded 15.0 points for the Royals.
