ANCASTER,ON. Redeemer Women's volleyball (2-1) hosted cross-town rivals, the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-0). The Mountaineers has been off to an impressive start, riding a four-game win streak into the Den.
The Royals came out firing in the opening set, stunning the undefeated Mountaineers with a convincing 25-16 set one win. Hitting efficiency was the story of the first set. Redeemer was near flawless in their attacking, hitting .417% in set one. The Mountaineers hit -.074% in the opening set. The Royals had made their statement and looked to continue into the second set.
Mohawk answered in set number two. Matching the set one score with a 25-16 set win of their own. All tied at one, both sides delivered in the third set. Set number three went down to the wire where the Mountaineers pulled out a 27-25 victory to take control of the match.
Set for got underway and the Mountaineers were rolling off of back-to-back set wins. Mohawk closed out the fourth set with a 25-22 win and took the match 3-1.
Alyson Stolte had a phenomenal performance for the Royals. The senior middle had 8 kills and zero errors. Stolte posted a .727 hitting percentage with a team-high 12.0 points.
The Royals fall to 2-2 in the OCAA West and sit comfortably in the middle of the standings. The Royals next match is this Wednesday as they travel to face the Humber Hawks (4-0).
