ANCASTER, ON. Men's Volleyball hosted the Saint Clair Saints (2-6) Saturday afternoon. Redeemer looked to pick-up their second win in less than twenty-four hours following the Friday night victory over the Sheridan Bruins. The Royals have been playing high-level ball through November.
Saturday's action saw two teams with similar styles of play. The Royals and Saints both serve aggressively, aiming to put their opponent out-of-system. This aggressive tactic is accompanied by a plethora of service errors.
Set one had the service errors tallying high. The two sides combined 26 service errors, 15 from the Saints. The Royals failed to capitalize on the Saints mistakes and St. Clair was able to steal the first set 27-25.
The Royals countered in set two and made quick work of the Saints with a 25-16 win.
Late in the third set the Royals had a set point called overturned. However, Redeemer did not let this change of events affect their play. The Royals fought back and traded points with the Saints. With one point separating the two, Redeemer fought off four St.Clair set points. Redeemer's
Carsen Grim entered the match as a serving substitute. Grim rallied off an ace to send the Royals to a set point of their own. The Royals were able to snatch the third set 30-28.
The fourth set action was all Royals. Redeemer continued their third-set momentum and established an early lead.
Jared Prinsloo was a key contributor to the Royals lead as he recorded four aces early in the fourth set. The Royals held onto their lead and closed the match 3-1.
Redeemer rides a two-game win streak into their final weekend of the semester. The Royals travel to Sudbury next weekend to face the Boreal Vipers (0-6) and Cambrian Shield (4-3). Two Redeemer wins could see the Royals jump into the top four in the OCAA West.
