ANCASTER, ON Royals Men's Basketball (3-13) drops nail biting finish against the visiting Sheridan Bruins (8-8). Redeemer, fighting for the final playoff birth was in need of a few wins to close out the season. Saturday night, one win slipped through their fingers at home.
Redeemer was hot out of the gate and finished the first quarter with a 25-16 lead. Will Dykstra was the scoring machine for the Royals in the first quarter as he notched 8 of his 10 points in the first quarter of play.
The Bruins rallied back and headed into the half with a 1 point advantage.
The Royals and Bruins battled the entire second half. Redeemer fed off of the electric Redeemer Athletic Centre that was sitting at near capacity.
The match came down to final minute to determine the winner. Royals guard, Alex Naorvarath had a clutch game tying three with 20 seconds remaining. The Bruins bounced back and drove to the basket for a go-ahead bucket with 4.3 on the clock. The Bruins locked down the Royals for the final seconds and closed out the game.
Redeemer was led by the Double-double duo of Robert Mannella and Armeen Fazelipour.
The Royals look to lock down win over Lambton Friday February 9th.
