Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Condors Hand Royals First Loss of the Season

ANCASTER, ON  The Redeemer men's soccer program (1-0-0) travelled to Cambridge, ON to face off against the Conestoga Condors (0-1-0) Wednesday night. The Condors are coming off of a stellar season last year where they earned an OCAA gold medal and a CCAA silver medal.

Wednesday's match was off to a slow start. Each side tactically worked the ball attempting to feel out the opposition.

The Condors opened the scoring in the thirty-first minute with a scramble in the box. The Royals picked up the pace following the opening Condors goal. Redeemer forward Kaiden Smith had an excellent chance in the forty-fifth minute on a partial breakaway missing narrowly on the right side.

Redeemer started the second half firing. The Royals found the back of the net off of a corner kick in the forty-seventh minute, however, they were called off-side. The Royals rallied two more opportunities in the following minutes off of a free kick and another corner.

Royals keeper Matthew Derks delivered two sensational saves on the goal line in the fifty-first minute to keep Redeemer in striking distance.

Both sides fought for possession throughout the second half.

Conestoga capitalized on a late opportunity to extend their lead to two and close the match.

The Redeemer Royals fall 2-0 to the Conestoga Condors on the road. The Royals are back in action Saturday, September 14th at home when they host the St.Clair Saints at David Mantel. Men's soccer kicks off at 2:00 PM and women's soccer kicks off at 4:00 PM.
