ANCASTER, ON. The Redeemer Royals welcomed the Cambrian Shield Friday night. The Shield and Royals are tied for sixth place in the OCAA West.
Friday night's action saw the Royals open the match strong. Redeemer stunned the Shield in a 25-14 first-set victory. The Royals strong block defence held Cambrian to -.176 hitting efficiency in the opening set.
The Shield settled into set number two and were able to manage their attacking errors. Fighting for each point in the close contest, Cambrian pulled away 26-24 in set number two.
The Shield and Royals traded sets three and four to bring the match to a deciding fifth set.
Redeemer, sparked by the home crowd, jumped to an early 3-1 lead in the fifth. Redeemer's service pressure was a key to their success all evening and enabled them to gain early traction in the deciding set. The Royals extended their lead into the side switch and quickly found themselves with a 14-10 lead. Match point was nothing but thrilling. A long-contested rally with both sides nearly scoring ultimately resulted in a Royals game-winner.

Alyson Stolte climbs in the record books for career aces. Following a five-ace night against the Shield, Stolte finds herself in 5th all-time (114). A few more efficient matches and Stolte could jump into the top three.
