Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Royals Down Hawks 1-0 in Road Victory

VAUGHAN, ON - Redeemer women's soccer visited the Humber Hawks on Wednesday evening. The Reds entered the midweek match riding a two-game win streak and looked to climb the standings by adding one more.

As the postseason draws closer, the Royals fight in the middle of the OCAA West for valuable playoff seeding. A tightly contested division will see plenty of movement in the standings with four games remaining.

First half action in Wednesday night's match was stagnant. Neither the Hawks nor the Royals managed to deliver a high-danger scoring opportunity. The defence for both sides protected the middle of the field and forced the opposition to shoot from distance.

Forty-five minutes of play had the two sides scoreless.

Redeemer wasted no time in the second half.  CCAA Athlete of the Week Kendra Sieders continued her string of dominant performances, notching her third goal in as many games. Sieders opened the scoring in the 47th minute following a broken play at the top of the Humber 18-yard box.

The Royals, sparked by Sieders' heroics, nearly added a second minutes later. A frantic scramble inside the six-yard box saw the Royals trickle a ball toward the goal line. The Humber keeper dove at the last opportunity and swiped a sure goal away. A call too close to determine whether the ball crossed the line kept the match 1-0 for Redeemer.

Redeemer was dominant in the second half. Maintaining the majority of possession, Humber could not find an answer.

The Royals closed the match picking up a crucial 1-0 road victory over the Humber Hawks. A statement win for the Reds who have just put the OCAA West on notice.

Three games remain for the Royals in their final push towards the postseason. Redeemer's next match is back at home this Saturday against the Niagara Knights.
