HAMILTON, ON - OCAA playoffs began Wednesday night across the province. Redeemer men's soccer traveled to face the Seneca Sting. The Sting head into the playoffs after an impressive OCAA East campaign, finishing second in the division with an 8-0-2 record. Meanwhile, the Royals, the seventh seed from the OCAA West, are a far stronger side than their 1-4-5 record suggests, having narrowly missed out on multiple wins that ended in draws during the season.
Wednesday's match displayed just that. The Royals brought their best to Newnham Field in a tightly contested opening forty-five minutes. The Sting narrowly led the Royals 6-5 in shots.
Despite the Royals' excellent first-half play, Seneca cracked the code early in the second half to take a 1-nil lead. Â
The Sting fended off the Royals for the remaining thirty-five minutes and secured the quarter-final victory. The Royals men's soccer season comes to an end in the OCAA Qualifying round.Â
Redeemer has a promising future, despite losing a valuable senior class this season, the young core of the Royals' men's soccer has begun to make waves. The Royals will surely be a team to watch out for year after year with Head Coach
Matt Hahn at the helm.
