ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer Royals men's basketball team opened their season on Friday, October 17th, hosting the Mohawk Mountaineers in front of an energetic home crowd. Despite a spirited effort, the Royals fell 117–81.
Mohawk came out strong, taking a 34–20 lead after the first quarter. Redeemer responded in the second, feeding off the energy of the home crowd to swing momentum, but the Mountaineers' hot shooting kept the Royals at bay. At halftime, Redeemer trailed 64–41, and Mohawk maintained control through the second half.
Off the bench,
Thomaz Barbosa provided a spark for Redeemer, leading the team with 22 points.
Parker Davis followed closely with 18 points, picking up right where he left off last season as one of the OCAA's most consistent offensive threats.
Despite the loss, the Royals showed flashes of their potential and will look to regroup as they continue their early-season schedule.
