Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Royals Climb to Fourth Place on Senior Night

ANCASTER, ON - Redeemer women's soccer welcomed the Sheridan Bruins for a late-season matchup. The Tuesday night match carried major postseason implications. Entering the match, the Bruins held the final playoff position, but were one win away from climbing to sixth place. The Royals also entered the match with a major opportunity to climb the table. Redeemer entered the match in sixth place, one win away from fourth and the coveted home-field playoff game.

Tuesday's match was also the Redeemer Royals' senior night. Before the matches, the Royals took the opportunity to celebrate the graduating senior athletes of the Redeemer soccer programs. This season, the women's soccer team bids farewell to seven athletes: Alia Breukelman, Gracie Devries, Sarah-Anne Kinch, Kendra Sieders, Mya Sieders, Talia Vreugdenhil and Emily Walraven.

The Royals rose to the occasion. Redeemer dominated from the opening whistle and controlled the match. The Royals struck first in the 29th minute thanks to Talia Vreugdenhil. The senior defender has had tremendous success on corner kicks, recording her third goal of the season, scoring from a corner delivered by Emily Walraven.

Redeemer striker Joelle Mitton added to the Royals' lead two minutes later.

The Reds entered the halftime break leading Sheridan 2-nil.

Second-half action continued with the Royals controlling the pitch. A second senior athlete found her scoring touch on senior night. Kendra Sieders continued her sensational senior season with her fourth goal of the year. Redeemer's lead grew to 3-0, and the Royals closed the match.

Redeemer now finds themselves in a tie for fourth place in the OCAA West with one match remaining.

The Royals head to London this weekend to face the Fanshawe Falcons.
