ETOBICOKE, ON. At the OCAA Indoor Regionals, hosted by Seneca Sting at the Ontario Soccer Centre, the Redeemer Royals soccer teams fought hard and left their mark on the competition.
The women's team had a standout day, finishing with a 3-1 record, which earned them second place and a coveted spot in the upcoming OCAA Championship on March 6-7. The Royals kicked off the tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Conestoga, followed by an impressive 3-1 win against Fanshawe. They continued their strong form with a dominant 5-1 triumph over Lambton. However, their only setback came against Seneca, where they were defeated 2-0. Despite the loss, their overall performance secured them the second-place finish in the regionals, guaranteeing their place in the provincial championship.
On the men's side, the Redeemer Royals faced a tougher road, ultimately finishing in fourth place in their division. The day began with a 3-0 loss to Conestoga and a challenging 6-0 defeat at the hands of Seneca. Despite these setbacks, the team showed resilience, earning a thrilling 4-4 draw against Fanshawe in a high-scoring, back-and-forth game. Redeemer capped off their tournament with a strong 3-0 victory over Lambton, which helped them secure the fourth-place spot despite the earlier losses.
Both teams displayed great determination and teamwork, with the women's team heading to the championship as a result of their impressive showing. The women's indoor soccer championships will hit the field March 6-7 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.Â
