WINDSOR, ON. The Redeemer Royals women's basketball team faced a tough road challenge on Saturday night, falling 79-50 to the St. Clair Saints. Despite some strong individual performances, the Royals struggled to keep pace with the Saints, who had a solid showing from start to finish.
St. Clair came out hot, jumping to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. The Royals had a hard time finding their rhythm on offense, and the Saints capitalized on every opportunity. By halftime, the lead had grown to 36-26, and the Royals knew they needed to adjust if they were going to get back in the game.
In the third quarter, St. Clair extended their lead to 60-43, and despite a strong push from Redeemer, they couldn't close the gap. The Royals kept fighting, but St. Clair's aggressive defense and fast breaks made it hard for them to find any consistent offensive flow.
Lauren VanDyk put together a strong performance, leading the Royals with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Her all-around effort was crucial for keeping the Royals competitive, especially in a game where things weren't clicking as hoped.
Talia Vreugdenhil also had a solid outing, contributing 12 points and 9 rebounds, just one board shy of a double-double.Â
Redeemer will look to bounce back in their crossover match next weekend.Â
