OSHAWA, ON. OCAA Cross-over action kicked off Saturday afternoon across the province. Redeemer travelled to Oshawa, ON to face the number two seed Durham Lords. Last season the Royals were eliminated from the OCAA playoffs by the Lords in the opening round.
Redeemer stormed into the playoffs and shocked the Lords in set one. The Royals quickly established their offense spanning the entire width of the net. Backed by consistent service pressure, the Royals won the first set 25-20.
Durham was unable compose themselves after the opening set. Redeemer continued their excellence in set number two. The Royals convincingly took a two set advantage winning the second set 25-17.
The Lords were not going down without a fight. Durham led the majority of set number three. The Royals climbed back and stole a chance at match point. Following a match point service error, Durham scored two consecutive points to stay alive.
Set number four saw the Lords begin to pull away, however, the Royals were determined to snatch the playoff victory. Royals outside hitter,
Avery Surette found herself on the service line trailing 19-12 and sparked a seven-point comeback. The red-hot service run burned both of Durham's timeouts and led the Royals to a 22-20 lead. Redeemer closed out the remaining points 25-22 to win the match 3-1.
Redeemer was led by
Joelle Lammers who delivered a monster game scoring 19 points out of the middle. Lammers hit .407% with thirteen kills. Lammers is no stranger to impactful performances and Royals fans can expect her to continue to be a leader on the court.
The Royals advance to the OCAA quarter-finals next weekend. They await their opponent to be determined tomorrow when the Canadore Panthers visit the Niagara Knights.
