Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Eliminated in OCAA Quarter Final

KING CITY, ON - In a rare playoff scenario, both the Redeemer men's and women's volleyball teams matched up against the Seneca Sting on the same night and at the same venue. On the men's side, the challenge was just as formidable, as Seneca entered the quarterfinal as East Division Champions and the No. 13-ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.

Seneca came out firing, establishing control early and forcing a Royals timeout within the first 10 points of the opening set. The pace was high, the swings were aggressive, and the playoff intensity was evident from the first whistle. Redeemer gradually settled into the quarterfinal atmosphere, clawing their way back into contention with disciplined play and steady composure.

Both teams showcased elite talent at the net. The match was physical, with hard-driven attacks, strong blocking on both sides, and impressive defensive efforts behind the block. Long rallies and high-level exchanges defined the evening as neither side backed down.

Seneca narrowly escaped with the opening set and carried that momentum into the second, building rhythm offensively and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Redeemer, however, was no stranger to adversity. Having come back from a similar deficit in their previous playoff match, the Royals maintained their composure heading into set three. That poise translated into confident execution, as Redeemer controlled much of the third set and extended the match to a fourth.

In set four, adjustments from Seneca began to pay dividends. The Royals' offensive patterns became more predictable, allowing the Sting to anticipate and defend more effectively. The set remained tightly contested, with momentum swinging back and forth, but Seneca ultimately edged ahead to close out the match 3-1.

One of the key statistical differences came from the service line. Both teams committed 11 service errors, but Seneca capitalized with seven aces compared to Redeemer's one, a margin that proved significant in such a competitive match.

Despite playing on the road, the RU Royal Family made their presence felt. Redeemer supporters outnumbered the home crowd, creating an atmosphere that at times made it feel like the match was being played inside the Den.

With the loss, Redeemer's season comes to an end in the OCAA Quarterfinal. Though eliminated from postseason play, this young Royals squad gained invaluable playoff experience that will serve them well moving forward. The future remains bright as they look to build on this year's growth and return stronger next season representing Redeemer University.
