BELLEVILLE, ON - The Redeemer Royals women's basketball team saw their season come to a close in the qualifying round against the Loyalist Lancers, the No. 1 seed from the East Division in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.
The opening quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find an offensive rhythm. Shot opportunities were limited and contested, and neither side was able to consistently generate clean looks. Loyalist, however, managed to capitalize on a few more of their chances, building an 18-11 lead after the first frame.
Redeemer continued to compete hard in the second quarter, leaning on their defensive intensity to keep the game within reach. The Royals forced tough shots, battled on the glass, and disrupted passing lanes to prevent the Lancers from fully pulling away. Offensively, though, Redeemer found it difficult to convert their opportunities. Despite creating workable looks, shots simply would not fall at the rate they needed. Loyalist extended their advantage to 36-25 at the half.
Coming out of the break, the Royals continued to defend with determination, but the challenge remained on the offensive end. While the Lancers proved why they earned the top seed, this was a game that remained within striking distance. Redeemer's defensive effort gave them a chance throughout the contest, yet the inability to consistently finish possessions made it difficult to mount a sustained comeback.
In the end, the Lancers pulled away for a 75-55 victory.
