KITCHENER,ON - The Redeemer women's volleyball team delivered a statement performance Friday night, defeating the Conestoga Condors in a hard-fought five-set match to clinch fourth place in the West Division and secure a home playoff game for the first time in 11 years.
With postseason history on the line, the Royals came out in full control, dominating the opening set 25–13 and setting the tone early. Conestoga responded in the second set, but neither side was able to pull away as the match evolved into a back-and-forth battle, with the teams trading set wins to force a decisive fifth.
The fifth set proved to be every bit as intense as the moment demanded. Redeemer held its composure in the closing points, edging the Condors 15–13 to seal the victory and spark a celebration on the visiting side of the net.
Friday's match was historic on multiple fronts. Third-year starting setter
Alana DeJong delivered a record-setting performance, finishing with 55 assists to establish a new single-match program record. DeJong previously held the record at 47, set earlier this season on Jan. 16, 2026. Her 55 assists now stand as the most in a single match in either the men's or women's volleyball programs at Redeemer.
Offensively, the Royals were paced by
Avery Surette, who posted 20 points, while Alana Heidbuurt added 19 in a balanced attack that kept Conestoga under constant pressure.
The win also capped a landmark regular season for Redeemer, as the Royals finished with a 12–4 record (.750), tying the highest winning percentage in program history. The program last reached a .750 mark during the 1997–98 season, when the Royals went 9–3. While higher win totals were recorded during the 1990s when the program competed in Division II, Friday's result stands as the program's best winning percentage in the current, non-divisional league format.
Redeemer now awaits confirmation of its first-round playoff matchup, with final standings to be determined by results later this weekend.
