ANCASTER, ON – The Redeemer Royal's men's soccer team played host to the Sheridan Bruins. Following the women's success during the early slate, the men looked to keep that momentum going.
And that they did. Staying on theme with early goals, Redeemer's Andrew Beerda chugged down the field, blowing by flat-footed Bruin's defenders and buried a beautiful goal to give the Royals a 1-0 lead in just the 11th minute.
But then the Bruins turned up the heat. They possessed the ball through much of the remainder of the half. At the 18-minute mark, Sheridan tied the game on a scramble in front of the Royals net.
Exactly 20 minutes later, Sheridan's Andrew Peter found the back of the net on a sweet short side shot to give the Bruins their first lead.
And that's how the teams would go into the break, Sheridan leading 2-1.
The Bruins came out flying in the second half. They had multiple chances out of the gate. Some timely saves by Timo Sladakovic, along with some great blocks by Zion Brown, Zach Swackhammer, and Aiden Lugtigheid kept the lead at just one.
The Royals would muster a furious comeback attempt late. They were able to secure themselves four or five corner kick opportunities within the last 10 minutes, along with two free kicks from great positioning, but the Royals didn't get the bounce they were looking for.
Sheridan bent but didn't break, and they're heading back out to Oakville with the win.
The Royals will look to bounce back when they host Fanshawe on Saturday, September 26th at 3pm.
