ANCASTER, ON – The Redeemer Royals women's soccer team hosted the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday night.
The game was a defensive clash from the start. Neither team giving up an inch unearned. Both goalkeepers had to make some solid stops in the first half.
Jasmine DeBoer was certainly the busier of the two keepers. She made a couple of great diving efforts and fending off some solid Falcons corners to keep the game knotted at zeros.
And that's how the score would look after the opening 45.
However, early in the second half, the Falcons caught the Royals sleeping. In the 45th minute, Fanshawe's Lily Ryder found Natalie Diaz, who made an incredible cut into the box and buried it to give the visitors the lead.
The game would continue in a defensive stalemate. Each team would have chances on numerous corners, but no one could get any real threats on goal.
That was until Audrey Benjamins was able to make a sweet pass through to Charis Johnson, and while the midfielder's pass would deflect off a defender, Johnson recovered and fired one off the left goal post and in. While not getting any credit on the scoresheet, Benjamins was a huge factor in knotting up this match!
The game opened up from there. Each team got chance after glorious chance to grab the lead, but the goalkeepers were having none of it.
And that's how the game ended, as the teams battled to a draw.
Redeemer's next game is at Humber on September 30th, where they look to avenge their 1-0 defeat earlier this month.
