Stepping into the role of head coach of Redeemer’s Cross Country team, Andrew Ponsen is an accomplished runner and athlete, and an experienced leader.
Having run for 25 years, Ponsen has specialized in road races, trail races, and triathlons. He has completed three Boston Marathons, partook in the Sea2Sea cross Canada cycle for charity, finished first for his age bracket in the Peaks Trail Race and, with three Ironman competitions to his name—one taking place in the last year—he shows no signs of slowing down.
Beyond his own athletic achievements, Ponsen has passed his expertise and knowledge down, coaching on and off for the last 15 years at King’s Christian Collegiate, where he continues to work as the Director of Facilities.
Ponsen is from Burlington.
Why did you decide to coach?
“I love the opportunity to share my passion for running with others, help others pursue their love for running, and seeing how they can honour God through it, and achieve their goals.”
