It was an up and down weekend for the men's soccer team who went 1-1 with a win Friday night against Lambton College and a loss Saturday afternoon against St. Clair College.
Friday nights game, the first game played under the lights at the new field, saw the Royals jump out to an early lead courtesy of a 10th minute penalty shot by Jeremy Stevens. The Royals would grab another before the half when 1st year Zach DeBruyne put Redeemer up 2-0 in the 45th minute.
Lambton put the pressure back on the Royals when they pulled the score to within one in the 50th minute on a goal by Mat Ward of the Lions. However, Taylor Prins sealed the game in the 79th minute putting the Royals up 3-1 with his 2nd goal of the season.
After scoring three goals Friday night, the Royals had difficulty finding their finishing touch against St. Clair as they were held off the scoresheet for the first time this season in a 2-0 loss. The loss was the first for the men's team and the first for either Redeemer soccer team as the Royals were a combined 5-0 going into the match.
Goals from Hussein Elnimairi (59th) and Jordan Lidia (68th) was all St. Clair needed as they grabbed their first win of the season.
Next up for the men's team is a tough test against the #1 Nationally ranked Humber Hawks on Tuesday evening in Toronto before traveling to Kitchener to play the Conestoga Condors on Thursday.
