Royals tie for Division title with victory against Bruins

The Men's volleyball team added one more win last night to their already impressive record with a 3-1 victory over the Sheridan Bruins. With the 2 points, Redeemer finishes the regular season with a 14-4 record and in a tie for 1st place in the OCAA West Division.

By way of a tiebreaker, Niagara College (14-4) ends up as the #1 seed from the OCAA West while Redeemer slides down to #2 despite having identical records.

After dropping the first set to the Bruins 26-24, the Royals ripped off 3 straight wins 25-23, 25-17, and 25-15. The Men's team, coming off of a loss to Mohawk College on Saturday night, was eager to get the regular season finished up and focused on the upcoming Provincial Championships. The Royals were able to do that as they made quick work of Sheridan in the 3rd and 4th sets.

Wednesday's game was a testament to the depth on the Redeemer Royals team. As most OCAA schools center their offense around 1 or 2 dominant players, the Royals continue to attack from everywhere on the court. 4 players had double-digit points, while setter Jake Klassen (Surrey, BC) and libero Jesse Dykxhoorn (Holland Marsh, ON) continued their very strong play as well. Dykxhoorn's 28 digs was the highest total by a Redeemer libero since the tracking of digs began in 2007-2008.

Head Coach Wayne Harris will now see his team through a week of training and preparation as they await the start of the Provincial Championships that run February 21st-23rd. In the opening round of Provincials, Redeemer will face the winner of the Mohawk College/George Brown crossover match taking place this weekend in Toronto.
