In what seems to be a running theme for 2013, the Royals took the field at home on a very rainy day on Saturday. Despite the conditions, the Royals faithful fans showed up and Redeemer's soccer teams did not disappoint, coming away with two solid 2-0 wins.
In what was considered to be a must-win situation for the Lady Royals, Redeemer played a balanced game scoring their first two goals of the season and earning their first shutout of the season.
The Royals entered halftime up 1-0 after Rachel DeWeerd found the back of the net for Redeemer for the first time this season. With the monkey off their back, Redeemer added another in the second half on a goal from Mary Christiaanse. Grace Berkel continued her excellent season and was finally rewarded with the win and the clean sheet.
The Royals record moves to 1-3 now at the midpoint of the season.
The Men's game had a similar tone and Redeemer moved their record to 2-2 halfway through the 2013 campaign. With their two losses to two of the stronger teams in the West, the Royals have positioned themselves well to make a run for a playoff spot by defeating the teams they anticipate they will be battling with.
The Royals got goals from Zach Kingma and Jordan Bokma while Redeemer recorded their first shutout of the season courtesy of Redeemer's solid defense and keeper Matt Koning.
After not recording a win during the 2012-2013 season, the 2-2 record for the Royals after 4 games is very promising for the team moving forward.
Both teams have four matches remaining with games against Humber College, St. Clair College, Conestoga College, and Mohawk College.
