The Royals opened up their 2014-2015 season on Tuesday night at home against the Humber Hawks. Despite hardwork and tough defense by the Lady Royals, the Hawks walked away with a 78-49 win.
Redeemer (OCAA 0-1) finally began their league play after a busy non-conference exhibition schedule. The Royals were in tough in their season opener as the Hawks were coming off of a 16-2 regular season in 2013-2014. Humber looked just as strong to start this years campaign outscoring the Royals 20-9 in the 1st quarter.
Lindsay Moffatt (Hamilton, ON) led all scorers with 15 points as the Royals tried to work their way back from the 1st quarter deficit. The Royals did outscore the Hawks 17-16 in the 3rd quarter shotting 45.5% from the floor but struggled to keep pace in the 4th. The Hawks added 25 points in that final quarter to stretch their lead and cruise to the 29 point victory.
Esther Weima (Nepean, ON) had a solid outing for the Royals with 10 points while former Hawk,
Kayla Suriani (Hamilton, ON) added 10 points of her own against her former team.
Redeemer has a few days off before traveling to Fanshawe College on Saturday in their first road game of the season. Game time is at 1:00pm.
