The Redeemer Royals Men's Volleyball team could not hold off the surging Saints in a 3-1 loss to St. Clair. Set scores were 25-13, 24-26, 25-15, 35-33. The Royals struggled with consistency as indicated by the game scores. St. Clair dominated the 1st and 3rd sets but the Royals kept pace with the Saints, winning the 2nd, and just narrowly failing to extend the game to 5 in an unbelievable 4th set.
Redeemer's
Eric Heidbuurt (Waterdown, ON) used the opportunity to set career best in kills and in points in an impressive day for the 4th year veteran. Heidbuurt totaled 29 kills and 33 points in the loss. Not only did Heidbuurt break his own personal records, he broke a number of Redeemer records. His 33 points and 29 kills were the most ever by a Redeemer Men's Volleyball player in a league game. Eric surpassed his own record of 28 points in a match from February 12th of 2014 and moved ahead of 3 time CCAA All-Canadian Ryan Talsma who recorded 25 kills in a match on January 30th, 2009.
Both Volleyball teams will now have the week to prepare for the Mohawk Mountaineers who will make the short distance to Redeemer on Friday. In one of the most anticipated nights of the year on the Royals calendar, Redeemer will look to come away with a pair of victories against their rival neighbours.Â
