A very short an intense season is about to get underway for the Redeemer Royals Women's and Men's Soccer teams. With a packed schedule of 8 games that spans just over 4 weeks, every game matters. Both teams improved last season and will look to continue that trend. Coming off of an Indoor Soccer Provincial Championship, sights will be set on the men's team to carry that success into the outdoor season this fall.

The men come into the 2014-15 season with great ambitions of building on their Indoor Soccer Championship from just a half year earlier. Tournament MVP Josh Elgeti will lead the team once again, but is far from alone in the talent department. Lewis Tuininga returns to challenge OCAA defenders and Craig Deboer will once again anchor the team's defense. With a number of athletes having graduated, the team will look a little different this fall, but there is an excitement and belief among the squad that has them thinking of nothing but the OCAA Championships. Coach Grootenboer, heading into his second season, suggests that there will be no surprises this year, as the team remains skilled and physically tough.

Key Departures:

Key Additions:
Debora De Silva
Lauren Tamming
Caell Huyer returns for his fourth year patrolling the sidelines for the Royals. This past summer Huyer completed his Pre-B coaching license and is making minor adjustments to the year round development cycle for his athletes. The team is coming off of a rebuilding season and with almost all of the team returning (aside from captain and defensive all-star Rachel Passchier) and the addition of a handful or more new athletes, the team will be deeper, stronger, and will look to make significant strides in the OCAA. Both De Silva and Tamming are skilled attacking players and other newcomers like Stephanie Huisman, Monika Couperus, Rachael Guetter, and others will solidify the team's midfield and back line. Huyer anticipates a team with more of an offensive mindset, willing and able to attack regularly. "We are ready to challenge for a playoff berth, and in a sport with a one game playoff, there is opportunity to surprise with a deep run."
Schedule Notes
The Royals face three teams in their first four games that finished last season with 5 wins a piece in Fanshawe, Sheridan, and Humber. Their final position in the standings will depend largely on their results in South Western Ontario when they play at Windsor and Sarnia in late September.
