All it took was 2 points on Wednesday night for Redeemer's
Eric Heidbuurt to become Redeemer's all-time career points leader in Men's Volleyball history. Heidbuurt surpased former player Ryan Talsma who held the record with 907 points. Eric finished the match, a 3-0 loss to the Fanshawe Falcons, with 13 total points to raise his total to 919 career points. With 4 games still left on the OCAA schedule for the Men's Volleyball team, Heidbuurt will look to continue to add to his points total as he finishes up his final games as a Royal.
Heidbuurt inched closer to Redeemer's all-time career kills record as well. The record is also currently held by Talsma. Eric added 11 kills to his total on Wednesday night, keeping him just shy of the record which sits at 719. Heidbuurt has just 12 more kills to record to finish as the all-time leader in kills.
In the match, Redeemer saw their 2 game win streak snapped after a straight sets loss to Fanshawe. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.
The Lady Royals fared better in their contest against the Falcons. Redeemer defeated the visitors 3-1 with scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15.
Charlene De Vries had 11 kills, 1 ace, and 6 blocks for 18 total points to lead Redeemer.
The women's record improves to 8-6, while the men's falls to 4-10.
Next up for the Royals is a back-to-back weekend against Boreal College (Friday) and Sheridan College (Saturday). Friday's match is a rescheduled match between Boreal that was postponed do to travel issues in the first semester.
