Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Straatsma, Heidbuurt Honored on Graduating Athlete Day

Redeemer University College celebrated graduating athletes in Soccer, Cross Country, and Volleyball this past weekend in the final Volleyball home games of the year. Redeemer also took the opportunity to honor two special volleyball athletes who both achieved a significant milestone over their career. Curtiss Straatsma and Eric Heidbuurt both received recognition for breaking the all-time Redeemer career points records in their respective sports.

Straatsma broke the all-time women's volleyball points record during the 2013-2014 season while Heidbuurt broke the all-time men's volleyball points record last week against Fanshawe College. Both athletes continue to add to their totals. Heidbuurt has 2 more games left in the season and his career to add to his final tally. His 908th point broke 3-time All-Canadian Ryan Talsma's record who was the former holder of the title. Straatsma has 2 more games in 2015 and than will continue to build on her record through the 2015-2016 season in her final year as a Royal.

Not to be forgotten, the volleyball teams also played a pair of games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Lady Royals improved their record to 10-6 with solid victories over Boreal College (3-0) and Sheridan College (3-1). Redeemer has put together a 4-game win streak and will look to enter the Provincials with another pair of wins this upcoming weekend when they travel to Boreal and Cambrian in their final matches before the Championships.

The Men's team picked up a win on Friday night against Boreal (3-0) but fell on Saturday to the Sheridan Bruins (3-1).
