It wasn't the weekend road trip they were hoping for as the Royals Basketball teams fell to the surging St. Clair Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Saints handed the Ladies their first loss of the season while the Men's team are still looking for their first victory of 2016-17.
The women's match was a battle of two undefeated teams as both the Royals and Saints entered the match with identical 3-0 records. The game proved to be close throughout with the Saints edging out the Royals with a strong 4th quarter.
Jesseca Brown had a game-high 17 points for the Royals in the loss.
After being down 11 points at halftime, Redeemer outscored the Saints 19-10 in the 3rd to pull the game to a 2 point margin. However, the Saints took control in the 4th with a game high 21 points in the quarter and a final score of 61-49.
After starting the season with a loss to the top ranked Sheridan Bruins, the Men's team was looking to secure their first win of the season against the Saints. However, the home team had their own aspirations and were able to roll to a 98-82 win against the Royals.
The match was close throughout with the Saints always holding a slim lead. Like the women's game, the Saints were able to pull away in the 4th quarter, outscoring Redeemer 27-18.
