It seemed like it was only a matter of time for the OCAA Career Points leader,
Curtiss Straatsma, to knock off another OCAA record, and on Wednesday she did just that. The most prolific scorer in OCAA history now owns the OCAA Career Kills record as well. Sitting 7 kills back from the record, held by Cambrian's Shawna Metcalf, Straatsma hit that mark on Wednesday night against the Fanshawe Falcons. She added 1 more for good measure, as she finished with 8 total kills.
The Lady Royals earned themselves a very valuable win against the 11-5 Falcons in London on Wednesday. The win moved the Royals one step closer to the OCAA Provincial Championships as they sit in a tie for 4th place in the West with 3 games remaining. Redeemer will host the Humber Hawks this Saturday in the final league volleyball home games of the semester for the Royals.
After breaking the OCAA Career Points record last month, the kills record will be the icing on the cake for Straatsma in terms of her individual accomplishments in the OCAA. The goal still remains and OCAA Championship for Straatsma and the Royals, however as a 5th year playing in her final games of her OCAA career, the records are something she can cherish as prepares to graduate from Redeemer.
Straatsma became the OCAA's all-time points leader, surpassing Metcalf, and now sits with 1,311 career points. Her kills total reaches 962 and now has a chance to possibly hit 1000. The Lady Royals have three matches remaining this regular season for Curtiss to add to both records.
