It was a tough night for the Redeemer men's soccer team as the Royals were eliminated from Championship contention with a 7-0 loss at the hands of the George Brown Huskies. With the playoff loss, the Royals season comes to an end while the Huskies advance to the OCAA Provincial Championship.
Playing in a playoff game for their 5th consecutive season, the Royals entered the game as an underdog as the 4th place team from the West. The Huskies finished the season with a 6-3-1 record, good enough for 2nd in the Central Division.Â
The Huskies showed their offensive prowess by netting 3 quick goals within the opening 20 minutes, stunning the visiting Royals. From there, Redeemer exposed themselves defensively as they tried to push for their own offensive opportunities. George Brown's ability to quickly transition and counter their attack, proved to be to strong as they punished the Royals whenever they were able to apply some pressure in the Huskies defensive zone.
Despite the loss on Saturday, Redeemer finished the regular season on a high note, undefeated in 4 of their last 5 and conceding just 2 goals. The Royals will certainly take that momentum with them as they head into the off-season and begin preparation for a competitive Indoor season beginning in January.Â
