ESPINOSA TAKES OVER REINS OF MEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM

Redeemer Royals Hire Espinosa to Lead Royals in 2017-2018

Redeemer University College has hired Gad Espinosa as the 6th head coach in Men's Soccer history. Head Coach Espinosa officially got started for the Royals on Saturday as the Men's Soccer team kicked off their pre-season training.

Espinosa will replace former Head Coach Kyle Grootenboer. Grootenboer was with the Royals since 2013 and guided the Royals to an Indoor Championship title in 2014 and a program-best, 5th place finish, last season at the Outdoor Soccer Championship.

Redeemer's new hire comes to the Royals with a full resume. Gad is from Toronto where he most recently served for 7 years as the Technical Director of the Toronto High Park Football Club.  The club won the Ontario Cup Championship three years in a row during this time.  Gad also served as the Head Coach of the Girls Ontario Provincial Team for four years and helped them to win a Gold and Silver at the National Championships.

As a player, Gad also gained significant experience and knowledge over his successful career playing on the Ontario Provincial Team and Canadian National Youth Team before turning professional.  He played for the Toronto Blizzard and North York Astros before and after spending four years playing for two clubs in Ecuador.  Gad is familiar with the OCAA as well as he earned two Indoor Soccer Championships with Centennial College.

Athletic Director Dave Mantel commented regarding his excitement with the hire saying, "Gad's resume is very impressive. Beyond his resume though, Gad is strong in his professionalism, communication, and organization.  He maintains a Provincial B soccer license and  we are confident in his ability to further our vision of Character and Excellence in a Healthy Community".

Redeemer opens up their pre-season on September 1-2, 2017 at the Royal Cup Tournament before heading out on the road for their first league game on September 9th against St. Clair College.
