Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

IMPROVED EAGLES HAND ROYALS SECOND LOSS OF THE SEASON

Lady Royals will look for first win Saturday on the road at St. Clair

The 2018-2018 Redeemer Women's Basketball team will have to wait at least one more game for his first win of the season as the Lady Royals dropped their road match Wednesday night to the UTM Eagles. The Royals managed just 50 points in the loss as both teams impressed defensively throughout the match.

After a difficult season last year for the Eagles, UTM has skyrocketed to the top of the standings with 2 early season wins. The Royals however, have had a few bounces go against them and have dropped both road matches to start 2018-2019 including an OT loss to Niagara last week.

After shooting almost 40% from the field in their opener, the Royals struggled on Wednesday night shooting just 21%. Despite their poor shooting, the Royals held a 1-point advantage midway through the 2nd quarter. A 5-0 run by UTM at the end of the first half had UTM up 25-18 at the break. Redeemer was strong in the 3rd, shooting 50% from the field and keeping the game close. UTM stretched their lead in the 4th to 10 points and Redeemer closed it to just 6 points with a minute to go but that was as close as they would get. The final score was 60-50.

Julia Pavlik continued her hot start for Redeemer with her second straight double-double. Pavlik dropped 16 points and 14 rebounds. Tobie Brinkman also finished with a double-double, grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 10 points.

The Royals will have just a few days before they head back out on the road for their 3rd consecutive match away from Redeemer to start the season. The Women's team makes the long trip to Windsor for a Saturday afternoon showdown with the St. Clair Saints. The Saints dropped their first match of the season 83-68 to the Sheridan Bruins last Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm.
