Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SLOW START COSTS ROYALS IN LOSS TO 1ST PLACE FALCONS

Falcons frustrate Royals in home loss Saturday afternoon

After a strong effort at home on November 2nd against the Sheridan Bruins, the Royals were hoping for the same hot start Saturday against the 4-1 Fanshawe Falcons.

The Falcons came into Saturday's match, winners of 4 of their first 5 matches of the season and and in first place in the OCAA West.

For the 0-4 Royals, Redeemer was hoping to build on a number of close, well-played matches so far this season. Unfortunately for Redeemer, Saturday's match proved to be the first time this season the women's basketball team couldn't keep pace with their opponent. The Royals fell behind early to the top-ranked Falcons and were unable to dig themselves out of that hole.

Backed by a 43-13 opening half, Fanshawe led from start to finish, defeating the home team 82-40.

The Royals did outscore the Falcons in the 4th quarter, 14-12 behind Julia Pavlik's 8 points in the frame.

Despite the large margin of victory for the Falcons, Redeemer's Julia Pavlik led all scorers with a game-high 16 points.

Tobie Brinkman's streak of 4 consecutive games with a double-double came to an end. Brinkman finished just shy of the mark, with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

With the loss, the Royals continue to search for their first win of 2018-2019.

Redeemer makes their way to Sault Ste. Marie for a weekend double-header against the Sault Cougars. The Royals take the court Friday night at 6pm for game one. Game two takes place Saturday with tip-off set for 12pm. Sault currently sits in last place in the OCAA West with an 0-6 record.
