PREVIEW: ROYALS SET FOR CLASH WITH KNIGHTS

Redeemer Soccer finishes busy week with home test against Niagara

The busy varsity soccer schedule continues tomorrow for the Redeemer Royals Soccer programs. After a pair of Saturday matches, followed by trips to Sarnia this past Wednesday and Thursday, the Royals have a tough test ahead of them tomorrow afternoon.

The Royals take the field at 1pm and 3pm against the Niagara Knights. Both Niagara teams are coming off of a loss, while the Royals secured wins their last time out.

On the Women's side, the Knights currently sit at 2-2 in the OCAA West, with 6 points. After 2 straight wins for the Knights, the Fanshawe Falcons handed Niagara their second loss of the season on Wednesday night.

The Knights have had balanced scoring this season so far, as 5 different players have found the back of the net.

The Men's team will face a Niagara side that is ranked #12 in Canada. However, the Knights have suffered a loss to the Fanshawe Falcons since settling in at #12, falling 3-0 on Wednesday. Niagara enters the match with a 3-1.

The Knights are led by Oti Frigole, who has scored 4 goals this season for Niagara.

Redeemer enters the match with a 1-3 record. The Royals notched their first win of the season on Wednesday against Lambton, 4-2, on the road.  A win for the Royals would push the home team ahead of Niagara heading into next week. Both teams would sit at 2-3 but the Royals would own the tiebreak. A loss would have Redeemer fall to 1-4 with half the season completed.

Redeemer's Men's team remains undefeated after a 1-0 win on the road Thursday night in Sarnia. Redeemer enters the match at 3-0-1, tied for 1st place in the OCAA West with the Fanshawe Falcons. A win for the Royals would keep their unbeaten streak alive and would help them keep pace for top spot in their division. The Knights will look to hand the Royals their first loss, which would propel them past their opponent in the standings.

This is the first meeting of both teams this season. Last year, the Lady Royals dropped both matches against the Knights, and were outscored 8-0. The men's team did not fair any better, also losing both matches in 2017, being outscored 7-2.
