The Redeemer Royals Women's Soccer team had a draw in their sights with just minutes remaining in their match at home on Saturday afternoon against the Niagara Knights. A late goal by the visitors in the dying minutes, ripped that point from the Royals with the game-winner in injury time.
After a hard-fought battle, it appeared that the Royals and Knights match would end in a draw. After the Knights scored midway through the first half, the Royals eventually found the back of the net in the 85th minute. However, with just a minute left, Niagara netted the winner, stealing all 3 points from the home side.
Redeemer's
Elliana DeBoer headed home the game-tying goal off of a free-kick late in the match.
Serena Dejong served in a beautiful ball outside the 18-yard box and DeBoer headed home the cross into the top right corner. The goal was Elliana's first of the season.
At the midway point of the season, the Lady Royals sit in 5th place in the OCAA West at 1-4. Redeemer is 4 points behind 4th place St. Clair.
The Royals will look for some revenge on Wednesday against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Redeemer welcomes their crosstown rival in a rematch of last Saturday's match. The Mountaineers walked away as 1-0 winners from that meeting.
