The Redeemer Royals Volleyball teams hosted the Niagara Knights Friday night in a weekend double-header. After the Royals Basketball teams split Thursday night at Redeemer, the Volleyball teams were looking for a better result heading into their matches.
Fittingly, the Royals split Friday night as well, with the Women's Volleyball team losing to the Knights in a tough 5-sets and the Men's team winning in 4.
After the Royals took the first set 25-23, Niagara's women's team stormed back to win the next two, 25-21 and 25-20.
The Royals got back on track in the 4th, dominating the set, winning 25-15 and seemingly grabbing the momentum. However, the Knights came out quick in the 5th and cruised to a 15-9 set win and 3-2 victory.
Abby Sluys had 14 Kills for the Royals while
Rebekah Nash had 13 digs.
Natasha Desjardins led both teams with 15 Kills for the Knights.
Redeemer returns to the court Friday as they face the 2-6 Conestoga Condors.
The Redeemer Men's Volleyball team kept rolling with their 5th win in a row. In an impressive match, the Royals handled the CCAA #10 ranked Niagara Knights in 4 sets. Set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21.
For Redeemer, 3rd year outside hitter Brayden Stoffers was unstoppable. Stoffers finished with 19 Kills and 7 Aces and just 3 attacking errors (.500%). Wes Schilstra had a game-high 10 digs.
With the win, Redeemer moves into a tie for 2nd place in the OCAA West with a 6-1 record. The Royals have two huge matches to finish the semester. Redeemer will host the 6-2 Conestoga Condors Friday followed by the 6-0 Humber Hawks one week later.
