Another up-and-down weekend for the Royals has come and gone. The results were mixed as Redeemer's Women's Basketball team remains winless after a loss at home to the Lions while the Men's Basketball team survived overtime for their 4th straight win.
Friday night saw Redeemer's basketball teams draw another massive home crowd for their matches against the Lambton Lions.
In the women's match, Lambton jumped out to an early lead and kept it till the final buzzer. Down 11 points at half, the Royals made a game of it late in the 3rd, pulling the lead to only 5 points with a 10-0 run. However, Lambton responded with their own run of 8 straight points to put the game away.
The final score was 85-68.
Redeemer's Jessica Angelini had a team high 20 points. Angelini sits in the top 5 in the OCAA West in points per game at 19.8. Lambton had two players score over 20 points. Breanna Pretty had 23 points while Cassidy Crowe added 22.
The Royal's now fall to 0-4 on the season. Lambton jumped to 1st in the OCAA West with a 5-0 record.
The men's match needed OT to find a winner. Redeemer took an early lead in the match, going up 12-7, but the Lions stormed back to finish the 1st quarter leading 18-14. The Royals wouldn't lead again in the match until less then 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Redeemer erased an 18 point lead by the visiting Lions, backed by a 13-4 run midway through the 4th. The 4th quarter ended with both teams locked at 89. Lambton went up 93-92 early in OT but it was the Royals who took over from there. Redeemer finished the game on a 8-3 run, keeping their undefeated record intact.
Redeemer improves to 4-0 while Lambton drops to 3-2.
Redeemer will now head out on the road Saturday for an afternoon matchup in London against the Falcons. The Women's team takes the court first at 1pm against the 3-0 Falcons while the men's team plays at 3pm against the 2-2 team from Fanshawe.
