ROYALS SET FOR CLASH WITH LORDS IN VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF

Redeemer travels to Oshawa Saturday for a winner-take-all playoff match

The Royals and Lords are set to do battle Saturday when the OCAA Women's Volleyball playoffs get underway. The Royal clash will see the undefeated Lords host Redeemer in a winner-take-all playoff match. First serve in Oshawa is set for 8:00pm.

Redeemer wrapped up their regular season Saturday against the Knights, losing 3-2 at home. However, the loss had no impact on the standings for the Royals.

Redeemer will now turn their attention to the OCAA playoff. The winner of Saturday's playoff will advance directly to the OCAA Provincial Championship, hosted by Cambrian College, starting February 22nd. The loser's season will come to an end.

Redeemer qualified for Saturday's match, finishing 7th in the OCAA West. The Royals own a 6-12 record and will be looking for an upset against Durham on the road. Redeemer will be in tough however, as no team in any sport has ever knocked off a #1 seed in a crossover playoff match since the format was introduced to the OCAA in 2017.

In order for the Lords to stop the Royals, they will need to contain Redeemer's duo threat of outside hitters. 1st-year, Jasmyn Stoffers has been on a tear in the second semester. The outside hitter sits just outside the top 10 in the OCAA in points per game at 3.4. Right behind her is Abby Sluys. Sluys is averaging 3.3 points per game.

Durham will counter with outside hitter, Althea Boncheff. The Lords top scorer is averaging 4.1 point per game.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to face the host, the Cambrian Golden Shield, at 6:00pm February 22nd in the OCAA Quarterfinals.
