After picking up their 2nd and 3rd losses of the season before the Christmas Break, the Royals began 2020 with a pair of wins this past weekend. The Royals defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield Saturday and the Boreal Vipers Friday night. Both teams made the trip to Ancaster from Sudbury, Ontario.
The two victories for the Men's Volleyball team improved their record to 8-3, and helped them leapfrog the Conestoga Condors for 2nd place in the OCAA West. The Royals still trail the undefeated Humber Hawks who hold on to the #1 spot in the West.
With their weekend opponents sitting at a combined 1-21 record this season, the matches gave the Royals an opportunity to involve their whole team. All 12 players on Redeemer's roster played multiple sets over the two days. Benjamin Dejong led the Royals in kills Friday night against Boreal with 6 points, finishing with 9 total points. Bryaden Stoffers was dialed in behind the service line in the match, recording 8 aces in the 3 sets.
On Saturday,
Josiah Siebenga,
Brett Jenkins, and
Owen VanHuizen all finished with a game-high 6 kills. Redeemer's
Jason Wildeboer was deadly at the line, notching 9 aces in 3 sets.
Next up, the Royals will travel to Oakville on Saturday for their lone game of the week. The Bruins sit with a 3-7 record and were defeated by the Royals the last time out, 3-1 on November 6th.
