The Redeemer Royals Women's Basketball team traveled to Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario on Friday night, searching for their first win of the season. Putting the first semester behind them, the Royals opened the match against the 6-4 Lions strong, but couldn't hold on in the 72-53 loss.
Redeemer opened up a 21-14 lead in the first quarter.
Jessica Angelini connected on 3 of 4 3-pointers and hit 3 of 3 foul shots for 12 points in the first 10 minutes. Unfortunatley for the visitors, the hot shooting stopped there. Shooting 33% in the 2nd quarter and 23% in the 3rd quarter allowed the Lions to take control of the match. The Lions shot 40% from the field in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Royals 20-10 before catching fire in the 3rd quarter. Lambton shot 43% in the 3rd quarter, building a 61-37 lead.
The Royals would outscore the home squad in the 4th quarter, 16-11, but it wasn't enough.
Breanna Pretty led all scorers with 30 points for the Lions in the win.
Jessica Angelini finished with a team-high 20 points for Redeemer.
The Royals will now turn their attention to a pair of matches Friday and Saturday against Sault College. Sault will come to Redeemer winless on the season thus far. The Royals hit the court Friday night at 6pm, followed by the 2nd match of the back-to-back Saturday at 1pm.
