The Women's Volleyball team had their season come to an end Saturday afternoon after an OCAA Playoff Crossover loss in Ottawa. The Royals were in tough against the East's #2 ranked Algonquin but gave the hosts a scare in a tight playoff match.
After dropping the first set 25-11, Redeemer stormed back in the 2nd keeping the match competitive with a number of opportunities to tie the match. The Thunder eventually stole the 2nd with a 25-23 win. Determined to give themselves a shot at a comeback, the Royals came out firing in the 3rd, building a lead that they never relinquished. The Royals won the set 25-21 to get back into the match. Redeemer was able to stay calm and focused throughout the match while their opponents were visibly frustrated, opening the door for a comeback and what would be an intense 4th set.
The 4th was a back-and-forth adventure for both teams. After the Thunder led for most of the set, the Royals finally took the lead at 18-17. Redeemer would extend their lead by one to 19-17 before the Thunder pulled back even. From that point on, the match was tied 7 times as neither team appeared as if they were going to crack. A determined Royals squad fought off 4 match points for Algonquin before finally falling 28-26.
Abby Sluys and
Jasmyn Stoffers finished the season off with another strong match, both hitting double-digit points at 18 and 13.
Alena Reenders also had 10 points in the loss.
Maria VanVark had 37 assists in the match.
The Royals finish up the 2019-2020 season with an 8-10 conference record, 5-4 at home and 3-6 on the road.
