ROYALS DROP PLAYOFF CROSSOVER IN OTTAWA TO THUNDER

Redeemer eliminated from playoffs with tight 3-1 loss to Algonquin

The Women's Volleyball team had their season come to an end Saturday afternoon after an OCAA Playoff Crossover loss in Ottawa. The Royals were in tough against the East's #2 ranked Algonquin but gave the hosts a scare in a tight playoff match.

After dropping the first set 25-11, Redeemer stormed back in the 2nd keeping the match competitive with a number of opportunities to tie the match. The Thunder eventually stole the 2nd with a 25-23 win. Determined to give themselves a shot at a comeback, the Royals came out firing in the 3rd, building a lead that they never relinquished. The Royals won the set 25-21 to get back into the match. Redeemer was able to stay calm and focused throughout the match while their opponents were visibly frustrated, opening the door for a comeback and what would be an intense 4th set.

The 4th was a back-and-forth adventure for both teams. After the Thunder led for most of the set, the Royals finally took the lead at 18-17. Redeemer would extend their lead by one to 19-17 before the Thunder pulled back even. From that point on, the match was tied 7 times as neither team appeared as if they were going to crack.  A determined Royals squad fought off 4 match points for Algonquin before finally falling 28-26.

Abby Sluys and Jasmyn Stoffers finished the season off with another strong match, both hitting double-digit points at 18 and 13. Alena Reenders also had 10 points in the loss. Maria VanVark had 37 assists in the match.

The Royals finish up the 2019-2020 season with an 8-10 conference record, 5-4 at home and 3-6 on the road.
