VOLLEYBALL SPLITS AT HOME FRIDAY AGAINST HAMILTON RIVAL

Redeemer, Mohawk split in final meeting of the season

The Royals hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers Friday night as the Hamilton rivals battled for the final time this regular season.

Redeemer opened up the 2019-2020 season on October 26th at Mohawk, splitting with the Mountaineers as the Redeemer Men's team won (3-1) and the Women's team lost (3-0). This past Friday night, Redeemer had the turn to host, however the results remained the same. First up, Redeemer's women's team fell to the Mountaineers 3-0. In the Men's match, the Royals returned the favour, sweeping the Mohawk Men.

Despite the loss for the Women, three Royals finished with double-digit points. Redeemer's Abby Sluys led the team with 13 total points. Jasmyn Stoffers added 11 points while Alena Reenders had 10.

Set scores in the match were 25-18, 25-23, 25-21. The loss keeps the Royals in 6th place in the OCAA West with a 7-8 record.

After a big win on the road the previous weekend against the Conestoga Condors, Redeemer's Men's team took care of business Friday night sweeping away the Mountaineers. After a tight first set in which the Royals won 28-26, the Royals cruised to 25-18 and 25-13 wins in the final two sets.

Jason Wildeboer and William Winkelhorst each finished with a game-high 14 points. OCAA leading scorer Brayden Stoffers also had double-digit points for Redeemer with 13.

Redeemer will hit the road on Thursday to NIagara to battle the Knights before returning home for a weekend matchup against the St. Clair Saints on Saturday.
