Action packed weekend for the Redeemer Royals

This Saturday, October 2nd is an action-packed day for the Redeemer Royals. Both the Cross-Country team and outdoor soccer teams will be in action.

The Cross-Country team will be competing for the first time this year in the Fanshawe College Invitational. The race will be taking place at Fanshawe Conservation Area with the women's team taking the line at 12 pm and the men following at 2 pm. Head Coach Jeremy Parsons took time to reflect on the season ahead of the team and is excited to have his team "compete for a top 7 finish allowing them to qualify for the CCAA National Championships in November." On the men's side Parsons will looking to second year runner Jakob Kramer (Pickering, ON) and fifth year Ben Bonsma (Wellandport, ON) to lead this team this weekend. For the women's side, second yearAnnika Brink (Ipswich, MA, USA) will be looked at to lead the team and will be joined by fresh faces Thea Van Halteren (Cameron, ON) and Jessica Ramsay (Hamilton,ON). Check back on Monday for results.

The soccer teams will both be looking to record their first win of the season against the Mohawk Mountaineers. The Mohawk women's team will be coming into the match with the same record as the Redeemer Royals; 0-3-1. The teams tied each other last weekend. The Royals have recorded two goals this season by Esther DeHaan (Smithville, ON) and Eryn Struyk (Terrace, BC). As the shorten season is coming to an end this match will be critical for the Royals to clinch a playoff spot.

The men's team will be coming off of a tough match against the Sheridan Bruins this past Wednesday with a score of 0-4. Mohawk holds a record of 2-2 while the Royals are still searching for their first win. Mohawk will also be coming off of a 2-1 loss against Niagara Knights.

This weekend will be especially important at Redeemer University as the David Mantel Field Dedication ceremony will take place before kick-off of the men's game. We invite students, staff, alumni and the wider community to come and be part of this event to recognize the incredible impact that David Mantel had on Redeemer University Athletics.

Please be sure to read the COVID-19 protocols that will be in place. Masks are mandatory.
