Royals women's volleyball downs Fanshawe 3-1 in Home Opener

ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer women's volleyball team (3-0 overall, 1-0 OCAA) opened the OCAA regular season with a 3-1 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons in front of 250 fans at the Redeemer Athletic Center Friday night.
The Royals won the opening two sets 25-14 and 25-23 to go up 2-0. Fanshawe rallied in the third set, taking it 25-20. Redeemer closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in set four as first year head coach
Josiah Ling recorded his first career conference win.
Leading the way for the Royals was second year
Rachel Annett (Melbourne, ON) who recorded the double-double adding 15 kills and 11 digs. Second yearÂ
Hannah Berg (Ile de Chenes, MB)Â and first yearÂ
Kate DeJong (St. Thomas, ON) both contributed with seven kills each. Second year setter
Brooklyn Van Rooyen (Acheson, AB) added 28 assists. Royals libero duo of second yearÂ
Carlene Cecchelli (Hamilton, ON) (9 digs) and third yearÂ
Erica Bultje (Chatham, ON) (5 digs) combined for 14 digs in the match.
Fanshawe was led by Taryn Elgersma and Hannah Onyema who chipped in with eight and seven kills respectively. Libero Jamie Routledge added 13 digs in the match.
For the match, Redeemer finished with 34 kills, 14 errors on 86 attempts for a .235 hitting percentage. Fanshawe added 25 kills, 23 errors on 89 attempts for a 0.22 hitting percentage.Â
The Royals return to action next weekend when they travel north to take on the Boreal Vipers (Nov. 28th) and Cambrian Golden Shield (Oct. 29th) in OCAA conference play.
