Fourth quarter rally leads Royals over Conestoga 78-72

davis-conestoga-1KITCHENER, ON - The Redeemer University men's basketball team (1-1 OCAA) rallied from behind to defeat the Conestoga Condors by the score of 78-72 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Midway through the third quarter, the Royals trailed 56-35. They would cut the 21-point deficit to 16 points, 62-46, at the end of three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, it was all Redeemer at both ends of the court as they held the host Condors to just 10 points and went on an 11-0 run over a three minute span, highlighted by an Adam Pavlik (Grimsby, ON) three ball from the corner to tie the game 66-66 with 3:44 left in regulation.

Conestoga would regain the lead (69-66), but the Royals fourth year Isaiah Brinkley (Rochester, ON)  would answer with the basket and one, to even it 69-69 with 2:39 left. Redeemer got back-to-back layups from Will Dykstra (Surrey, BC) and Pavlik to go up 73-69.  Brinkley would knock down four straight free throws as the Royals stole the road victory.

Leading the Royals was Brinkley who recorded 22 points. First year Parker Davis (Hamilton, ON) contributed with 15 points while Steven Adeyemi (Las Vegas, NV) and Pavlik both chipped in with 12 points each.

For Conestoga, Terell Lloyd (24 points) and Ladera Ujullu-Obang (20 points) combined for 44 points.

Redeemer went 27-for-63 (42.9%) from the field including 6-for-17 (35.3%) from beyond the arc. The Royals were also 18-for-30 from the free throw line. Conestoga was 28-for-79 (35.4%) from the floor and struggled from downtown going just 4-for-35 (11.4%) from three-point range.

The Royals return to action Saturday, November 5th when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers on the road as part of the four game Super Saturday at the David Braley Athletic Complex.
