Redeemer women's basketball drops 84-59 decision to Condors

KITCHENER, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team (2-2 overall, 0-2 OCAA) dropped an 84-59 decision to the Conestoga Condors Saturday afternoon on the road.
Midway through the opening quarter, the Condors went on a 14-0 run to go up 20-5 with 2:41 left in the first quarter. They would extend their lead to 20 at the half 44-24 and lead by as many as 21 in the final quarter, on route to the home victory over the Royals.
The Royals had four players in double figures led by first year duo of
Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) and
Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) who combined for 29 points. Stayshyn added 15 points and seven rebounds while Vreugdenhil contributed with 14 points and seven boards. Second year
Kayla Simmonds (Hamilton, ON) added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals while second year
Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) added 10 points and six boards.
For Conestoga, Megan White and Yasmeen Smith combined for 56 points and 29 rebounds adding 28 points each. Smith finished with 15 rebounds while White chipped in with 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Redeemer shot just 32.8% (22-for-67) from the field and 15.8% (3-for-19) from beyond the arc. They also went just 12-for-23 (52.2%) from the free throw line. Conestoga was 31-for-73 (42.5%) from the field including 5-for-14 (35.7%) from long range.
The Royals return to action Saturday, November 5th when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers on the road as part of the four game Super Saturday at the David Braley Athletic Complex.
