ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University women's volleyball team fell to the No. 3 nationally ranked Humber Hawks by the score of 3-1 Tuesday night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
The Royals rallied in set one winning 30-28. The top seeded team in Ontario won the next three by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 to improve to 7-0. With the loss, Redeemer falls to 4-4 in the OCAA West Division.
First year
Kate DeJong (St. Thomas, ON) recorded 10 kills while first year
Avery Surette (Barrie, ON) collected seven kills and nine digs. The Royals offensive leader
Rachel Annett (Melbourne, ON) chipped in with five kills and seven digs. Second year setter
Julia Koksanowicz (Hamilton, ON) added 21 assists in the loss.
Humber was led by the duo of Keyome Ellis and Erika Dodd who both recorded 12 kills each. Setter Stephanie Armstrong finished with 33 assists in the win.
The Royals hit just .047 for the match, adding 27 kills with 22 errors on 106 attempts. Humber had a .284 hitting percentage registering 41 kills with 14 errors on 95 attempts.
Redeemer closes out the first half the OCAA regular season at home on December 2nd at 6pm versus the Conestoga Condors at the Redeemer Athletic Centre. After the Christmas break they will take part in the Durham College Cup January 6-7 before opening the second half of the regular season at home against crosstown rival the Mohawk Mountaineers on January 12th at 6pm.
